Know What You are Getting with Digital Billboards

The growth in digital billboards over the last several years has been explosive. For advertisers, the opportunity to utilize the cutting edge technology these giant LCD screens offer can be hard to pass up. These digital screens typically offer a 24/7 well lit pallet (often actually looking better at night) as well as the ability to seamlessly update your message, often at little or no additional cost. At Connectivity, we have effectively used digital boards for several clients.

On the surface it may look to be much less expensive than a typical billboard , often 1/3 the price a static board in the same area may cost. What many potential businesses don’t realize, however (and the billboard companies won’t tell you unless you ask) is that these digital billboards are incredibly profitable because the billboard companies often sell in up to 8 different advertisers. So while you may be getting coverage at 1/3 of the price, you may only be getting 1/8 of the coverage.

So, how do you effectively evaluate a digital strategy? Here are 4 tips to help…

Tip #1: Determine if your message is best shown with the benefits of digital, such as events or very visual products.

Tip #2: Divide the estimated traffic by the number of advertisers to get a true traffic estimate for your ad.

Tip #3: See if there are non-digital boards within the same proximity that may be more cost effective overall by giving you 100% coverage.
